WHAT SORT OF THINGS DO FAMILIES LOOK FOR IN A HOTEL WHEN YOU HAVE CHILDREN?

Planning a holiday for all the family takes a lot more consideration than booking one when going adults only. When it comes to looking at accommodation, there’s a number of things to think about before jumping in and booking something. From pool depth, to evening entertainment and children friendly food options, here’s the main things to look for when holidaying with the kids:

Is it a family friendly location?

It might sound obvious but ensuring that your hotel or apartment is in a family friendly location is the first step. Hotels that are miles away from the beach or any shops and bars aren’t a good idea as children will easily get bored. If it’s in a central location in walking distance to all the essential amenities that’s a great start. Be sure to check out what the local public transport options are if you’re planning on heading to visit other areas or taking a trip to the market.

Will other families be there?

Does the hotel advertise itself as a family friendly hotel? If not, don’t bother as you don’t want to feel like a nuisance if the hotel is mainly couples only. Family friendly hotels will be geared up for families with a baby pool and shallow areas so they’re much safer and there’s the added advantage of their beingplenty of other children there for yours to play with. Family friendly hotels also have children’s meals on the menu if a la carte dining but usually when holidaying with children looking for an all-inclusive hotel is usually the best option as it works out more cost effective.

Is there enough to do?

Children get bored so easily that it’s important to make sure there’s enough for them to do at your chosen location. Check out whether there’s a kids club, a play area, a regular evening entertainment programme and activities for them to join in with during the day. It’s your holiday too and you don’t want to have to spend all your time keeping the kids entertained.

Alternatives to a hotel

If you don’t fancy going to a hotel, how about hiring a villa for your family holiday. A villa will be a home from home whilst you’re away and means your children can be as noisy as possible without having to worry about disturbing other guests. A villa means you can cook all your own food and even enjoy barbeques by the pool.

Booking a family holiday is such an exciting time so make sure you follow these steps to get yours just right.
